CHARACTER DESIGN

Benedict Timothy, a British actor, is the inspiration for the image of the detective otter. The otter is a very playful wild animal, which Benedict gladly accepted when he learned the audience thought he resembled an otter. His sense of humor also fits the otter’s image. The detective setting alludes to the BBC’s Sherlock Holmes image from the 2010 television series Sherlock.

This project begins with the premise that art, like human bodies, is both free and unfree. Because many bodily functions impose the body’s constraints, our thinking and creativity are confined to our brain and body, much like a goldfish that cannot leave its tank to survive. Art also has this beauty. Although with physical limitations, our bodies help us express our creativity. Thanks to our tools and ingenuity, they also provide us the chance to travel.

NAME: Fisher (they/them)
JOB: Writer
INTEREST: Baseball

Fisher, a little-known author, is unable to participate in baseball, his sport of choice, because he needs a wheelchair and his head is shaped like a fishbowl. Since enjoying both sunbathing and baseball, Fisher often tans on the grass where others have not cleaned up yet after playing baseball. The wheelchair was included after considering some of the goldfish’s traits, although the character’s appearance was originally intended to be free of physical flaws. The design of gaining and losing is more in accordance with the initial notion of the project’s freedom and bondage because Fisher is granted a human body but loses his ability to move.
